Huxley looks forward to Melbourne
They say strength comes from adversity. We often hear stories of people overcoming personal challenges. They don’t only succeed, they shine. Essendon Football Club’s Adam Ramanauskas is one example. He overcame fibromatosis, a low grade cancer to return to senior ranks. His story captured the football public. Melbourne though, as a new hero in Julian Huxley.
Much like Ramanauskas, Huxley overcame cancer. His battle was with a brain tumour. Benign as it was, such things present an challenge that looms over you like a dark cloud. Huxley triumphed in the battle, and has chosen the Melbourne Rebels as the place to restart his international career. His strength of character is exactly what the new club needs. Add his talent and leadership, and the Rebels are very much the winners.
Coach Rod Macqueen has, from the outset, sought to establish a culture, not just a club. Huxley is the perfect choice. On landing a prize recruit, and one that might just be his marquee player, Macqueen said
” Julian has shown great form since his return. He brings with him a fantastic attitude to life and the game we can all learn from. He is an intelligent player who will make a significant contribution to the Rebels.”
On the move south, Huxley has expressed an excitement for being a foundation member, and an opportunity to work under the visionary coaching of Rod Macqueen.
“It’s very rare to get the opportunity to be a part of a start-up, to help build the foundations of a club. I am extremely fortunate to have this chance… I have enormous respect for Rod Macqueen and look forward to helping him deliver on his determination to do things differently with the Melbourne Rebels.”
For those who don’t know Julian Huxley, He’s played for both t the ACT Brumbies and the Queensland Reds, where he won the Pilecki Medal for player of the year.He also did a stint with Northland in the New Zealand domestic competition where excelled. He’s a quality footballer, with a new lease of life.
” I must say I have a more holistic approach to life through my recent experience and I expect Melbourne to offer as much off the field as on.”
He’ll love Melbourne, and Melbourne will surely love him.

Great work Paul! Can’t wait to see him in a Rebels Jersey!
That is an inspired signing. Well done to the Rebels management on that one.
