On The March Since 2009
The Rebel Army has been on the march since 2009, and as part of celebrating our first birthday (Yes it’s been a year since our formation), we’re launching our very own site. A site committed to the Rebels, Victorian Rugby as well as committed to providing a voice for its fans.
The year 2010 and more importantly 2011 look set to form an integral part in the history of the Rebels and Victorian Rugby, and we’re honoured to be part of this history in the making.
Our initial goals and aspirations have been achieved:
- We have our very own Super Rugby team representing Victoria (not just Melbourne) with the Melbourne Rebels taking to the field in February of next year.
- We have a home for Rugby Union right here in Victoria, a rectangular field called AAMI Park aka. ‘The Bat Cave’
- We have local news papers reporting on Super Rugby.
Victorian Club rugby has already seen the benefit of having our own Super franchise, with increased participation numbers of several fronts, and will continue to grow strong with the support of the franchise.
We (the supporters) now have the important task of supporting and ensuring the growth of the Rebels brand and Victorian Rugby as a whole. The Army will be endeavouring to develop projects which help assist this.
For now, we may be confined to a purely online presence, with the exception of occasional events, however rest assured 2011 will require a higher level of active participation.
Our first major project was to launch a new website. It was obvious that we’d outgrown our Facebook page, and required more functionality in effort to deliver to the Rebel Army fans expectations. But fear not. The Facebook page will still continue to play a vital role in linking the website with social networking aspects.
For the benefit of our fans, you will notice that you can use the “Facebook Connect” or “Twitter Connection” option, which allows you to log into our site (and stay logged on) using your favourite social networking credentials. Doing this, you can comment on our blogs, chat on the forum, and stay in touch with the Victorian Rugby Community.
As a brand, we’ve also grown into our own identity. Our aim is to compliment VRU’s efforts, respect Rugby Union’s place in the history of Victoria, and at the same time look to the future of the Rebels by building a new and dynamic supporter brand. This is the reasoning behind the new logo of The Rebel-Army, something we’ll dedicate a post to for your commentary and feedback!
We hope you stick around for the months, years to come, because we’re here to stay so you get used to it!

Great call to arms! It’s time to prove we deserve this rugby team. The ARC Rebels managed to lure 2,500 people to its first games, but the numbers dwindled. So now it’s up to us to put our money where our mouths are, to vote with our feet.
