Melbourne Rebels show their true colours (Membership, logo & jersey unveiled)

After a long wait, Victorian Rugby fans will suffer no more. It’s been 10 months since the 15th Super Rugby license was awarded to the Melbourne Rebels, and we can finally unveil the most important aspects of any sporting team, the logo and jersey. Items which identify our much beloved team.
TV Networks stunt Rugby’s growth

You may of noticed we recently launched a campaign "Rugby on Free To Air". The aim of the campaign is to get some backward Television Network operators to give Rugby viewers throughout Australia (in particular Melbourne) a fair go. The main focus is the Seven Network and their rights to broadcast coverage of the Tri-Nations.
Poll: Nickname for AAMI Park

This discussion has been far and wide, so it's time to gather votes on what the nickname should be for AAMI Park.
Paxinos underwhelmed
When I read an article like Cannon’s or Stathi Paxinos’ I really wonder if these alleged opinion makers understand the impact the Rebels will have in Victoria.
Yes of course we’d like a team with some players who can be easily identifiable. It’s a crowded sporting market here, and the ‘wow factor’ as Paxinos calls it, would go along way.
Eddie Jones also said not so long ago that the Melbourne Rebels would be the undoing of Australian rugby. A fifth team dilutes the player pool. I would contend, however respectfully, that Cannon, Jones and now Paxinos have missed the boat.
Register your interest to build the Rebel Army

UPDATE: On the 29.07 the Rebels released their membership packages. Those wanting to participate in the below concept, should purchase a Category D membership.
This is a 'Call to Arms' for all Rebels supporters. An invitation to help establish a unique and exciting match day experience, to march as one, to be the Rebel Army. Active participation is more than just turning up, it's time to get serious.
What were we thinking?
So, we have a new logo. Something to represent the Rebel Army moving forward, and the majority of feedback we received have been positive. How did we get to this design you may ask?
Our thinking in the matter was, lets have a look at what's already in place:
- The Melbourne Rebels logo, we looked at what works with it, and what doesn't - The general feel was it looked to much like a basketball logo rather than a Rugby logo which represents 100 years of Union heritage.
- Eureka Flag - Rather than throw the idea away, we aim to re-invent it - Let people recognise the foundation of the crest as being that of the Eureka flag, but still move away from the literal flag image.
- The Victorian Coat of arms - Lets sneak this into our crest and represent the entire state rather than just be exclusive to Melbourne - a recurring theme the Southern Cross.
On The March Since 2009

The Rebel Army has been on the march since 2009, and as part of celebrating our first birthday (Yes it’s been a year since our formation), we’re launching our very own site. A site committed to the Rebels, Victorian Rugby as well as committed to providing a voice for its fans.
The year 2010 and more importantly 2011 look set to form an integral part in the history of the Rebels and Victorian Rugby, and we’re honoured to be part of this history in the making.
